What is an ANSI Lift Check Valve?

Lift check valves are also called piston check valves.

Fluid pressure through the device opens the valve, while any reversal of flow will cause the valve to close. Piston or lift check valves use a body-guided disc that moves up and down within the valve body.

The body guide ensures that the seat and disc configuration are properly aligned when the valve is closed. The valve is mounted below the disc so that the pressure and flow rate of the inlet line will force the disc to "float" off the seat, allowing the line fluid to flow through the valve.

If the flow unexpectedly reverses, the disc will automatically and quickly be forced closed by the weight of the disc, preventing the flow from flowing back.

Use caution when using these valves with dirty media that may cause the disc to sink into the body cavity.

The patented "floating piston" moves up and down within the cylinder as flow surges. As flow pressure decreases, the piston gently sinks into the seat to prevent backflow. The opening and closing action is positively controlled to minimize pulsation and eliminate chatter.
